Oncology Scans
PET/CT scans play an important role in cancer care by helping physicians see how cancer behaves inside the body, not just where it is located. By combining detailed imaging with information about cellular activity, a PET/CT scan can help detect cancer, determine whether it has spread, and evaluate how well treatment is working. This level of insight supports more informed decisions throughout diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up care.

At OMI of Gadsden, oncology PET/CT exams are performed with a focus on accuracy, comfort, and efficiency. Our goal is to provide clear imaging that helps your care team move forward with confidence, while ensuring you feel supported and informed throughout the process.
PET/CT for Oncology: What to Expect
For oncology PET/CT scans, a small amount of tracer is given through an IV before imaging begins. This tracer is designed to highlight areas of increased cellular activity, which can help identify cancer, evaluate how far it may have spread, or assess how treatment is working. After the tracer has time to circulate for approximately 1 hour, you’ll lie comfortably on the scan table for 10-20 minutes while images are acquired. The scan is painless, and our team is there to support you throughout the process.
